Southern Beau draws sharp duo
Trainer Doris Hebert and jockey Steve Bourque have won more than 420 races together, and they can add to that total Sunday when they make a rare appearance at Louisiana Downs with the promising 2-year-old Favorite Minit.
Favorite Minit invades from Evangeline Downs for the $50,000 Southern Beau, a 5 1/2-furlong race restricted to colts and geldings bred in Louisiana. He will meet seven others in the race, including an impressive maiden winner, Z Storm.
Favorite Minit won his debut, on the front end by 10 lengths in a 4 1/2-furlong maiden race. He was the 3-5 favorite for the race on the strength of his connections, works, and pedigree. Favorite Minit is by a past Horse of the Year, Favorite Trick, and out of the two-time stakes-winning mare Minit Towinit.
Favorite Minit races for Brittlyn Stables.
Another daylight maiden winner, Z Storm, merits consideration in the Southern Beau. He rolled to a 7 1/2-furlong debut win on Aug. 5. He is a grandson of Storm Cat and is out of a sister to Grade 2 Arkansas Derby winner Zarb's Magic.
Corey Lanerie has the mount for trainer Wes Hawley.
