South American import Salto Del Indio pointing to Gold Cup
ARCADIA, Calif. – Salto Del Indio, a Group 1 winner in Chile last October, has been bought by the Little Red Feather Racing Club and transferred to trainer Mike Puype at Santa Anita.
Salto Del Indio arrived in Southern California earlier this month.
Salto Del Indio will be pointed for the $500,000 Gold Cup at Santa Anita on June 28, according to Little Red Feather president Billy Koch.
A 4-year-old, Salto Del Indio is by the American-bred stallion Happy Hunting, by Seeking the Gold. Salto Del Indio was third in the Group 1 El Derby over 1 1/2 miles in Chile on Feb. 2.
The Gold Cup at Santa Anita is the main race for older horses at the Santa Anita spring-summer meeting, which began on Friday. The race was previously known as the Hollywood Gold Cup at Hollywood Park, which closed for racing last December.
