Souper Stonehenge ends Pink Lloyd's Jacques Cartier streak

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Souper Stonehenge posted a decisive score in Sunday’s $156,300 Jacques Cartier at Woodbine, denying the favored Pink Lloyd his fifth straight win in the Grade 3 stakes.
Souper Stonehenge ($5) tracked pacesetter Readyforprimetime through a slow opening in the six-furlong sprint, while Pink Lloyd raced three-wide between rivals at the rear of the six-horse field.
Souper Stonehenge hit the front without being asked near the quarter pole, and then drew off in the stretch to prevail by four lengths, in a final time of 1:08.89.
Pink Lloyd closed to secure second by three-quarters of a length over Malibu Secret. Joker On Jack, Readyforprimetime, and Dixie’s Gamble completed the order of finish.
Patrick Husbands rode Souper Stonehenge for trainer Mark Casse.
“Going into this race, I breezed this horse four times,” Husbands said. “I think he’s a world-beater at Woodbine. His second-last work, Mark said just easy, and he went (five-eighths) in :58, out (three-quarters) in 1:10. This horse is the real deal right now.”
A gelded son of Speightstown, Souper Stonehenge earned $90,000 in his first stakes victory for Live Oak Plantation, last year’s Sovereign Award-winning owner in Canada.
There was no show wagering.
