Souper Lucky tops high-quality allowance route

Parx Racing has put together a nice card for Saturday that includes a no-conditions allowance with a $60,000 purse. The one-mile race has attracted Souper Lucky from the Mike Trombetta barn, the Todd Pletcher-trained Matterhorn, and Bears Personality, who is 2 for 2 since being claimed by Ramon Preciado.
The nine-race program also includes a first-level allowance and two maiden races for 3-year-olds, one at six furlongs and another at a mile and 70 yards.
Souper Lucky was second in the $75,000 John Campbell at Laurel in his last start, when beaten three-quarters of a length by Kid Cruz. He earned a 101 Beyer Speed Figure.
Matterhorn, 4 for 14 in his career, will be making his first start since finishing seventh in the Grade 2 Kelso in October. He has 10 works since Jan. 2 in preparation for his return. He earned a career-high 98 Beyer in winning a third-level optional race at Saratoga last summer. He finished third to Valid in the Grade 3 Iselin at Monmouth Park in his ensuing start.
Manny Esquivel, who is 2 for 2 at Parx when riding for Pletcher, has the mount.
Bears Personality was taken by Preciado out of a 10 1/2-length victory in a restricted $10,000 claimer at Parx in December. The 4-year-old has since won a second-level optional claimer at Penn National and a third-level race at Parx. He earned a 90 Beyer in his most recent win.
