Souper Escape stalks to Seaway Stakes triumph

ETOBICOKE, Ontario — The favored Souper Escape parlayed a perfect stalking trip into her third stakes victory on Woodbine’s Tapeta in Sunday’s Grade 3 Seaway.
Souper Escape ($6.20) raced in third on the backstretch in the seven-furlong event, as Gamble’s Candy set honest fractions, with Sister Peacock pressing her all the way.
Souper Escape made a three-wide bid to hit the front at the quarter pole, and then assumed command in the stretch en route to a one-length tally, in a time of 1:22.10.
Painting awaited room on the turn before closing stoutly to nail Amalfi Coast on the wire for second. Another Time, Sister Peacock, Charmaine’s Mia, Miss Mosaic, and Gamble’s Candy completed the order of finish.

Luis Contreras rode Souper Escape for trainer Mike Trombetta and sub-trainer Darren Glennon.
“There was a lot of speed in the race, so she relaxed nice behind those horses,” Contreras said. “I just took my time to make the right move. I was really confident with her.”
After winning the Grade 3 Trillium in her previous start and now the Seaway, Souper Escape has established herself as the leading older female on the main track in Canada. The daughter of Medaglia d’Oro earned $75,000 of the $127,550 purse for Live Oak Plantation.
