Soul Stirring, the winner of the 2017 Japanese Oaks, and two other 2017 Grade 1 winners, Aerolithe and Admire Lead, are part of a competitive field of 18 in Sunday’s Grade 1 Victoria Mile for fillies and mares on turf at Tokyo Racecourse. The $1.87 million Victoria Mile lacks a standout. Miss Panthere won the Grade 2 Kyoto Himba Stakes at Kyoto on April 7 for her fourth straight win and is certain to attract support, along with Aerolithe, who has been competitive against males this year. Miss Panthere won the Kyoto Himba Stakes for fillies and mares at a mile on turf by a head over Red Avancer, who is part of the Victoria Mile field. Lys Gracieux was third in that race, beaten a head by Red Avancer, and is part of Sunday’s field. The first seven finishers in the Kyoto Himba Stakes were separated by 2 3/4 lengths.  Lys Gracieux was second in the 2017 Japanese 1,000 Guineas to Reine Minoru, yet another runner in the Victoria Mile field. Aerolithe beat males in the Grade 1 NHK Mile for 3-year-olds last May and won a Grade 3 race last summer in Sapporo. Aerolithe was second by a neck to Win Bright in the Grade 2 Nakayama Kinen against males on Feb. 25. Soul Stirring is winless in four starts since the Japanese Oaks, including a 10th in the Kyoto Himba Stakes. Admire Lead is also winless in her last four starts since a victory in the 2017 Victoria Mile. She was fourth in the Kyoto Himba Stakes, beaten three-quarters of a length. The distance will not be an issue for Let’s Go Donki, one of two 6-year-olds in the field. Let’s Go Donki won the Grade 1 Japanese 1,000 Guineas at a mile on turf in 2015 and was beaten a nose by Fine Needle in the Grade 1 Takamatsunomiya Kinen at six furlongs on turf against males on March 25. There are two American-breds in the field: Rabbit Run and Rieno Tesoro. Rabbit Run, a Kentucky-bred 4-year-old by Tapit, won a Grade 2 stakes at 1 1/8 miles on turf at Hanshin last September, but is winless in her last four starts, including a ninth in the Kyoto Himba. Rabbit Run was purchased for $750,000 at the 2015 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Rieno Tesoro, a 4-year-old New York-bred filly by Speightstown, was 14th in the Takamatunomiya Kinen. She was purchased for $250,000 as a yearling in 2015, and was second against males in the NHK Mile last May.
