ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Sorry About That goes back to the Polytrack after a lackluster turf experiment in Friday’s Woodbine headliner, a six-furlong allowance with no conditions for Ontario-sired runners. Sorry About That finished second in each of the last two runnings of the $125,000 New Providence Stakes. Five weeks ago, he was beaten 1 3/4 lengths by reigning Canadian champion sprinter Phil’s Dream in that six-furlong Ontario-sired stakes. Sorry About That was favored June 8 in an allowance sprint on grass, a surface for which he has little breeding. After breaking a length behind the others, he raced four wide on the turn while about four lengths behind a sleepy pace and then faded to finish a distant fourth in a six-horse field. Omar Moreno will ride Sorry About That again Friday for trainer Laurie Silvera. DRF FORMULATOR FACT: No. 6 Sorry About That. Trainer Laurie Silvera is 3 for 6 with a $6.25 ROI with horses going from turf to synthetic over the past year. Paso Doble has been on the improve in his first campaign for the underrated Fournier. After running seventh when he came off the bench in the Jacques Cartier Stakes, the durable 8-year-old rallied to finish just a head behind Sorry About That in third in the May 19 New Providence. Paso Doble was a stalking second most recently in the June 13 allowance prep for the Grade 2 Highlander Stakes that was moved to the Polytrack after the turf came up soggy. He came away with a solid 85 Beyer Speed Figure in that six-furlong sprint, which had just a 1 3/4-length gap between the longshot winner, Awesome Eclipse, and the seventh-place finisher. Executive Five was claimed for a bargain $25,000 on Nov. 3. Following a six-month break, he checked in fourth in an optional claimer behind Sharp Sensation, who subsequently doubled up in a stakes at Presque Isle Downs. Executive Five rallied five wide for second behind the favored Citius in a good $50,000 claimer when he cut back from six to five furlongs May 30. He’s a surprising 0 for 14 going six furlongs on Polytrack but managed to hit the board in six of those outings. Langstaff is winless since he took the restricted Bold Ruckus Stakes on grass last June. Trainer Bob Tiller is taking the blinkers off the 4-year-old, who wanted no part of 1 1/16 miles on June 8 in the Steady Growth Stakes. Completing the field are longshots Spirit Warnings, who was stakes-placed last year, and Weather Bill, who was a prominent second in a first-level allowance last Saturday.
