Into Mischief, the nation’s three-time reigning leading sire, is entering the major November races and auctions with a head of steam. Not only has the stallion taken over on the North American earnings list – banking $22,738,279 through Oct. 23, according to Daily Racing Form statistics, to continue pulling away from Quality Road at $19,112,038 – he has the potential to again break his own single-season earnings record. Into Mischief’s progeny earned $25,009,663 in 2021, breaking his own record set the prior season. Into Mischief led the Keeneland September yearling sale by gross receipts, and mares in foal to him and his weanlings will be in high demand at the upcoming Fasig-Tipton and Keeneland November breeding stock sales. Into Mischief’s popularity also could help his sons and grandsons quickly find their footing in the mixed marketplace. Into Mischief’s son Authentic, standing alongside him at Spendthrift Farm, won the 2020 Kentucky Derby and Breeders’ Cup Classic, as well as two other Grade 1 events, to secure Horse of the Year honors. The young stallion’s 24 mares in foal sold last year averaged $408,542, compared to the introductory stud fee of $75,000 their foals were conceived on. Authentic’s first weanlings are on offer this November, and their catalog pages make it clear that his sizeable first book of 229 mares bred – trailing only two other sons of Into Mischief, Practical Joke with 231 and Goldencents with 230 – included quality as well as quantity. His group of nine weanlings selected to the elite single-session Fasig-Tipton November sale, where there are fewer opportunities to make the catalog, include half-siblings to multiple Grade 1 winners Casa Creed and Cyberknife. Of his 18 weanlings cataloged at Keeneland November, four were chosen for the single-session Book 1, including a half-sibling to Grade 1 winner Lady Ivanka. Into Mischief’s other sons with their first weanlings on offer this fall are the royally bred Honest Mischief, who has been popular in his regional marketplace at Sequel Stallions in New York, and the precocious runners Instagrand and Rowayton, both part of Larry Best’s burgeoning stallion operation housed at Taylor Made Farm in Kentucky. Rowayton’s first-crop weanlings were conceived in an initial season in Pennsylvania before relocating. Into Mischief does not have any sons represented among the first-crop covering sires with mares in foal at the November marketplaces, but he does have a grandson in multimillionaire and multiple graded stakes winner By My Standards. That young stallion stands alongside his sire, Goldencents, and grandsire, Into Mischief, at Spendthrift. Into Mischief’s sons entering stud in 2023 will include multiple Grade 1 winner Life Is Good, a prominent contender for the Breeders’ Cup Classic, at WinStar Farm; and Mandaloun, promoted to the 2021 Kentucky Derby win, at Juddmonte Farm.
