Songbird jogs upon return to track

ARCADIA, Calif. - Songbird, the undefeated champion 2-year-old filly of 2015, jogged at Santa Anita on Sunday, her first day of racetrack exercise after being knocked out of Friday’s Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs with a fever last month.
Songbird will jog for a week before her training intensifies through May. Songbird won the Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks on April 9 in her most recent start.
“She looked like she was happy to get out there,” Hollendorfer said.
Songbird was diagnosed with a fever after the Santa Anita Oaks and was declared from the Kentucky Oaks on April 17 after she was treated with antibiotics. Owned by Rick Porter, Songbird has won seven races and earned $1,982,000.
Hollendorfer said he does not have a comeback race scheduled for Songbird.
“We missed our point race,” Hollendorfer said. “We’ll get her up to speed and see what happens. There are plenty of races for those kind of horses.”
At the Santa Anita spring-summer meeting that begins on Thursday, there is one notable stakes for 3-year-old fillies on the main track – the $200,000 Summertime Oaks, a Grade 2 at 1 1/16 miles on June 18.
