Song of Navarone's homecoming was a winning one. In his first start at Sunland Park since capturing the $600,000 WinStar Derby in 2007, he was persistent for a three-quarter-length win over Quiet Again in the $50,000 Winsham Lad Handicap on Saturday. It was another half-length back in third to Tricky Causeway. \nSong of Navarone ($4.80) stalked leaders Tricky Causeway and Forty Grams in third before going on to cover the one-mile for 4-year-olds and up in 1:35.80. Antonio Castanon was aboard the winner. The Winsham Lad was Song of Navarone's second straight stakes win following the $200,000 Distance Championship at Zia Park in December. \nSong of Navarone missed the remainder of his 3-year-old season following the WinStar Derby, sidelined by a stomach virus. He made his return last October at Zia. \n"He's back and as good as ever," said Henry Dominguez, who trains Song of Navarone for George E. Coleman. "One mile might not be his best distance. I will talk to Mr. Coleman about his future. We plan on keeping him at Sunland and going for the handicaps here."\nSong of Navarone, a son of Sultry Song, has won six of nine starts and $533,158.
