Song of Navarone breaks track record

Jeff Taylor|Feb 16, 2009

Song of Navarone picked up his third stakes win in a row in Sunday's $50,000 Curribot Handicap at Sunland Park, lowering the track record for 1 1/16 miles in the process. Early pacesetter One Lucky Buck held on stubbornly for the place spot and it was Quiet Again reporting home third.

Ridden by Antonio Castanon and trained by Henry Dominguez, Song of Navarone ($3.60) rallied furiously down the stretch to wear down One Lucky Buck by three-quarters of a length in a time of 1:41.91, which shaved .01 of a second off the previous mark. The win was Song of Navarone's seventh from 10 starts and the 5-year-old son of Sultry Song has now earned over $563,000.
