Something has to give in speed-filled allowance

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – The pace should be an honest one when seven Florida-bred fillies and mares square off in Thursday’s $38,000 allowance feature at Gulfstream Park.
Speed has been the major asset for the majority of the starters in the main event, including Mom’z Laugh, who is one of two 3-year-olds in the field, along with Jamie’s Dancer. Mom’z Laugh was on the lead for much of the trip in her maiden win last out, earning a career-best 76 Beyer Speed Figure. The outing was her second since being transferred to trainer Marcus Vitali’s barn this winter.
You Lie and Remarkable Teresa renew acquaintances and may vie for favoritism. They finished second and third under similar conditions Feb. 26, with You Lie leading most of the way before succumbing late to Little Tami, who sat a perfect trip off a contested pace.
Remarkable Teresa was the 6-5 favorite in her last start. She prompted You Lie’s pace and finished a tiring third, four lengths behind the winner.
The remainder of the field comprises Little Daniella, Yes Mz Olga, Artsy, and Jamie’s Dancer.

You Lie (Last 3 Beyers: 78-73-48)
◗ Although she has been knocking on the door at this level, she’s not won a race in 13 months. Her most recent victory came under a $35,000 claiming tag while under the tutelage of Ron Spatz here last winter.
Remarkable Teresa (Last 3 Beyers: 72-75-84)
◗ She owns the highest lifetime Beyer of any member of the field, an 84 posted for a 6 3/4-length wire-to-wire victory in her 3-year-old finale Dec. 17.
Artsy (Last 3 Beyers: 73-70-64)
◗ Claimed from her last race, she tries allowance company for the first time.
◗ She figures as part of the early mix after wiring $16,000 conditioned claimers for her third win two weeks ago.
Jamie’s Dancer (Last 3 Beyers: 69-53-56)
◗ Like most horses from this barn, she’s kept a busy schedule, with Thursday’s outing the 21st start of her career and the sixth this season.
◗ She’s also the only member of the field with stakes experience, having run in five stakes races, including the Grade 3 Old Hat on Jan. 3.
◗ Eighteen days ago, she became the third and latest winner from 61 starters at this meet for the Barry Rose stable, rallying to a three-length starter-allowance triumph at 23-1.
DRF FORMULATOR FACT: No. 4 Little Daniella. Trainer Carlo Vaccarezza is 17-4-0-0 with a $3.27 ROI over the past year going turf to dirt in sprints. Click for more details. – Mike Hogan
