Someday Jones surges to Robellino Stakes win
Someday Jones took command in the stretch and drove clear to a two-length win over pacesetting Saratoga Jack in the $100,000 Robellino Stakes on Saturday at Penn National.
Saratoga Jack got away first and put up opening fractions of 23.73 and 47.45 seconds while Someday Jones sat about a length behind and outside of him in the 1 1/16-mile race for Pennsylvania-breds.
Someday Jones began to advance on the turn under Frankie Pennington, drawing on even terms with the pacesetter at the head of the lane and edging clear late for the win. Monongahela put in a late run to get third, a neck behind Saratoga Jack.
It was 4 1/2 lengths back to Flashy Kyem in fourth. Favored Grasshoppin, who raced in third for the first half-mile, faded to finish fifth.
The final time was 1:43.70 over a fast track. The winner returned $12.20 for his first stakes victory in his 14th career start.
Someday Jones, a 5-year-old son of Smarty Jones, is trained by John Servis for Main Line Racing Stable and Alexandria Stable.
