Some purses increased for Los Alamitos Thoroughbred meet

Los Alamitos has increased overnight purses in some categories for its upcoming summer meeting, which runs from June 25 to July 5. The increase was made possible because of gains in all-sources handle at the track’s December meeting, according to racing secretary Bob Moreno.
A maiden special weight race at the upcoming meeting will be worth $45,000, compared to $40,000 at the 2020 summer meeting and $42,000 last December.
A $14,000 to $16,000 claiming race for nonwinners of two has been increased $2,000 since December, and will be run for $20,000. The same race had a purse of $17,000 last summer. A first-condition allowance race will be worth $48,000 this summer, compared to $45,000 in the summer of 2020. The purse for that category was $48,000 in December.
“It’s almost the same as it was in the winter, but we bumped up a little in some spots,” Moreno said of the overall purse structure. “They did so well for the winter we had to pick them up a little bit.”
Santa Anita concludes its winter-spring meeting on June 20. There are four stakes scheduled each day on June 19 and 20.
The two-week Los Alamitos meeting will have seven days of racing – June 25-27 and July 2-5. Del Mar opens its summer meeting on July 16.
