Solidify, Inclusive point to Display Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Solidify built on his career-debut victory Sept. 23 with a win in his graded stakes debut in the Grade 3 Grey Stakes on Oct. 21 to remain unbeaten in two starts. Trainer Reade Baker said both Solidify and Inclusive, who was fifth in the Grey, will be pointed toward the $100,000 Display Stakes for 2-year-olds over 1 1/16 miles here Dec. 8.
Solidify has rallied strongly from off the pace in both of his starts. Baker said Solidify has shown that he has ability in his training throughout the year.
“He was looking to do that all summer,” he said.
Baker said he and owners Paul Braverman and Timothy Pinch had been waiting for Solidify to pop up in a yearling sale throughout 2017 and were able to purchase the son of Tapizar at the OBS October yearling sale for $7,000. The same connections also own Solidify’s 3-year-old full brother, Peppered, who finished second in the Grey Stakes last season and was most recently fifth in the Grade 3 Ontario Derby here Oct. 13.
“We had been waiting for him to show up in the sale because we have his brother Peppered,” Baker said. “When he came up in the sale, we went and bought him.”
Baker and Braverman also are partners on Inclusive, a $15,000 yearling sale purchase at the 2017 Keeneland September sale. Inclusive won his maiden here over one mile and 70 yards on the Tapeta on Sept. 12. He had a troubled trip in the Grey Stakes.
“I thought if he didn’t get in trouble in the race, he would have been right there,” Baker said.
