Solid trade at second day of OBS fall yearling sale
After posting improved figures for its select session, the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. fall yearling sale continued momentum as it moved into the first of its two open sessions on Wednesday. A $190,000 Kantharos colt led the way as the session posted gains in the average and median.
A total of 143 yearlings sold during Wednesday's session for a total of $1,967,300 compared with 291 sold for $3,126,100 during the lone open session of 2017's two-day auction. The session average price was $13,757, a jump of 28 percent over $10,743 in the 2017 open session. The median was $7,000, a gain of 40 percent from $5,000.
Wednesday's buyback rate was 27 percent.
Stonestreet Farm purchased the session-leading colt by its former colorbearer Kantharos, who stood in Ocala for the first six years of his stud career before relocating to Kentucky. The colt, already named Our Time, was consigned by Summerfield Sales, as agent.
Our Time is out of the winning Formal Gold mare Golden Trumpet, dam of five winners from seven starters. Graded stakes winners Strike Softly and Golden Sabre appear on the catalog page, and it is the extended family of Canadian champion Wilderness Song.
