Soldier of Fortune retired

Soldier of Fortune, winner of the Irish Derby at age 3 and the Coronation Cup at 4 but unraced this year at 5, has been retired to stud and will stand at Haras du Logis Saint-Germain in Putot-en-Auge in Normandy, France.

By Galileo out of the Erin s Isle mare Affianced, Soldier of Fortune was trained throughout his career in Ireland by Aidan O Brien, for whom he also won the Group 2 Prix Noailles, the Group 2 Prix Niel and the Group 3 Chester Vase, all of his group race victories coming between 1 3/8 miles and 1 9/16 miles. He ended his racing career with a fourth-place finish behind Conduit in last year s Breeders Cup Turf.

Soldier of Fortune won 6 of 13 career starts for earnings of $2,654,826. He will stand for a fee of approximately $15,000 as part of a partnership that includes Coolmore Stud.
