Soaring Sky coming from Ireland for Del Mar Oaks
Soaring Sky was scheduled to arrive at Del Mar from Ireland this weekend for a start in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks on Aug. 21, new trainer John Sadler said.
Soaring Sky, owned by Yuesheng Zhang, will make his last start for trainer Jessica Harrington in the $300,000 Del Mar Oaks at 1 1/8 miles on turf. Soaring Sky has not started in a group stakes in Europe, but should have no trouble with the distance of the Del Mar Oaks.
In April, Soaring Sky won a minor handicap against males at 1 7/16 miles at Limerick Racecourse. More recently, Soaring Sky was third by 1 3/4 lengths in an allowance race for fillies at 1 3/16 miles on July 24 at Gowran Park. Soaring Sky has won 2 of 7 starts.
The Del Mar Oaks field is expected to be led by Madone and Going Global, the first two finishers of the Grade 2 San Clemente Stakes at a mile on turf July 24 at Del Mar.
