So You Think’s first foal at stud is a colt

So You Think, a world-travelling Group 1 winner, sired his first foal on July 25, when Soft Landing produced a colt at Bell View Park in Australia, Coolmore Stud reported on Twitter.

A New Zealand-bred son of High Chaparral, So You Think stands the Southern Hemisphere season at Coolmore’s Australian division in Jerry’s Plains, New South Wales, for an advertised fee of $60,605 ($66,000 Australian). He stands the Northern Hemisphere season at Coolmore’s Irish base in Co. Tipperary for $23,140 (17,500 Euros).

So You Think, now 7, began his career in Australia, where he became a dominant force, earning champion 3-year-old male honors in 2010 and following up as champion miler in 2011. Campaigned in the Southern Hemisphere by Dato Tan Chin Nam and Tunku Ahmad Yahaya, So You Think won consecutive editions of the Group 1 Cox Plate, one of Australia’s marquee races, among his seven group stakes wins on the continent.

Coolmore purchased a managing share of So You Think in November 2010, and the horse was sent to Ireland to be trained by Aidan O’Brien.

After establishing So You Think as a Group 1 winner in England and Ireland, Coolmore began to swing for international classics, finishing fourth in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in France, second in the QIPCO Champion Stakes in England, a game sixth in the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs, and fourth in the Dubai World Cup. He returned to familiar territory to finish his career in summer 2012, winning Group 1s in Ireland and England.

So You Think retired with 14 wins in 23 career races for earnings of $8,696,325. Ten of those wins came in Group 1 competition.

Breeders reacted with great interest in the new stallion during his first season in Australia, with 145 Southern Hemisphere mares scanned in foal, as reported by Racing Post.

Soft Landing, an Australian-bred Al Maher mare, has produced three foals. She is a half-sister to Australian champion Universal Prince and Group 1 winner Universal Queen.
