CYPRESS, Calif. - Smoovin Saturday showed the poise of a veteran with a win in Sunday’s $101,500 King Glorious Stakes for California-bred 2-year-olds at Los Alamitos. Ridden by Tiago Pereira, Smoovin Saturday ($9.20) closed from sixth of eight to win by 1 1/4 lengths over 12-1 John Metcalfe. Can’t Help Myself, the 11-10 favorite, finished third after racing within a length of the front in the stretch. Pereira rode Smoovin Saturday to a win in a similar manner in a maiden race at a mile on dirt at Del Mar on Nov. 16. Pereira found Smoovin Saturday to be a patient runner in the first half of the King Glorious Stakes. “He was comfortable behind,” Pereira said. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing!
