Smokinpaddylassie stays perfect in Beyond the Wire Stakes

Parx shipper Smokinpaddylassie closed relentlessly in the stretch to reel in the favored Limited View in the $100,000 Beyond the Wire Stakes at Laurel Park on Saturday. She is now 3 for 3 in her career, and trainer Eddie Coletti Jr. plans to test deeper waters in her next start.
Stretching out from six furlongs to a mile, Smokinpaddylassie won going away by 2 1/4 lengths. Coletti said Smokinpaddylassie would be considered for the Grade 2 Gazelle at Aqueduct on April 7, when she would have the opportunity to earn qualifying points for the Kentucky Oaks.
Smokinpaddylassie pressed the early pace outside Limited View, but that filly opened up a lengthy lead on the far turn. Jockey John Bisono kept after Smokinpaddylassie in the stretch, and she took the lead in the final sixteenth.
Bisono, a native New Yorker, recently won his 1,000th race in the U.S. to go along with his 1,000 wins in Puerto Rico.
"She has speed, but she kind of got lost out there," Bisono said of Smokinpaddylassie. "I waited until she turned for home, and then she gave me her kick."
Smokinpaddylassie paid $7.40 to win. She was timed in 1:38.02.
Limited View, a notoriously high-strung filly, held second by a length over the late-running Mo Shopping.
The one-mile distance turned out to be a bit long for Limited View, and jockey Edgar Prado had to be cautious asking her in the stretch because of her unpredictable ways.
Conniver: Anna's Bandit pulls away
Anna's Bandit continues to improve for longtime Maryland horseman Jerry Robb and scored her first stakes victory Saturday in the $75,000 Conniver, a seven-furlong sprint for Maryland-restricted fillies and mares.
Anna's Bandit is a 4-year-old daughter of the Maryland stallion Great Notion whom Robb bred in West Virginia. She is owned by the No Guts No Glory Stable of Gina Rosenthal, a trainer in her own right, although she has not started a horse since December.
Anna's Bandit was away from the races for 14 months before returning last September. She is 4 for 7 in her comeback and now has a three-race winning streak. She is 5 for 10 in her career.
"She had a very severe injury, and I babied her back," Robb said. "We just have to keep her going now."
Anna's Bandit Paid $10 to win and was timed in 1:24.77. The Conniver was the second win of the day for Robb and jockey Xavier Perez, who teamed up to win race 3.
Perez, who also won two races Friday, relaxed Anna's Bandit early, then angled her out between horses for the stretch run. She won by 3 3/4 lengths.
"She settled perfect for me, and we got a stalking trip," Perez said. "When I went left-handed with her, she rebroke."
The pacesetting She Rolls held second at 14-1 by a head over 6-5 favorite My Magician, who finished with a belated rally from well out on the track.
Up Hill Battle, the second wagering choice at 2-1, bid for the lead outside She Rolls nearing stretch but was outfinished and ended up fourth, a head behind My Magician.
