Smokey Image, Uncle Lino head probables for California Chrome Stakes

CYPRESS, Calif. - Smokey Image, the champion California-bred 2-year-old male of 2015, and Uncle Lino, third in the Santa Anita Derby on April 9, are two of the 13 nominees for Saturday’s $150,000 California Chrome Stakes for 3-year-olds at Los Alamitos.
Both are expected to run in the race at 1 1/16 miles, which is being run for the first time this year. Other potential runners are Malibu Sunset, unbeaten in two starts at Fair Grounds and Santa Anita; One More Round, a maiden who was second in the Grade 3 Lexington Stakes at Keeneland on April 16; and Mishegas, who won an optional claimer at Santa Anita on March 27.
Mishegas is trained by Art Sherman, who trains California Chrome, the 2014 Horse of the Year and the winner of the Dubai World Cup on March 26. California Chrome is currently at Taylor Made Farms in Kentucky in the midst of a month-long rest. He is expected back at Sherman’s stable at Los Alamitos in early May.
