Smarty Jones to parade at Philly

Matt Hegarty|Aug 04, 2004

Smarty Jones, the recently retired winner of this year's Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, will parade between races on Aug. 14 at Philadelphia Park, the track where the horse is stabled.

James Milligan, the director of marketing for Philadelphia Park, said that Smarty Jones will likely appear on the track between 2 and 2:30 p.m.. Smarty Jones was scheduled to run on Sept. 6 at Philadelphia Park in the Pennsylvania Derby. Those plans were cancelled last week after the horse suffered a bruise, according to Servis. Earlier this week, Smarty Jones was retired because of what were called bone bruises at the end of all four of his cannon bones.

The gates will open at 10:30 a.m. for the nine-race card with first post at 12:25.
