Led by the stakes winners Chatalas and Nothing Like You, the Grade 2 Starlet Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Los Alamitos on Saturday is projected to have a small field. The $200,000 Starlet Stakes is run at 1 1/16 miles and is the final graded stakes of the year for the division in Southern California. Chatalas won the Grade 2 Chandelier Stakes at 1 1/16 miles at Santa Anita on Oct. 7, but was only ninth of 12 in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita on Nov. 3 for trainer Mark Glatt. Nothing Like You, trained by Bob Baffert, won her stakes debut in the Desi Arnaz Stakes at seven furlongs on Nov. 18. Nothing Like You won a maiden race at a mile by 6 1/2 lengths at Santa Anita in October. The other expected runners in the Starlet are Grazia, a debut winner for Baffert in a maiden race at six furlongs on Nov. 12; and Great Forty Eight and Flynn’s Chance, who were first and third in a maiden race for fillies at a mile at Del mar on Nov. 12. Great Forty Eight is trained by Tim Yakteen, while Richard Mandella trains Flynn’s Chance. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
