Sly Beauty tops Casse exacta in Star Shoot Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The Mark Casse-trained fillies Sly Beauty and Closer Still ran one-two in Saturday’s $100,000 Star Shoot Stakes, while upsetting 2-5 favorite Dream It Is in the six-furlong sprint at Woodbine.
Closer Still set honest fractions with Dream It Is breathing down her neck. Sly Beauty was rank heading into the turn while saving ground, before closing down the center of the track to collar the leaders in deep stretch. She prevailed by a half-length in a time of 1:10.03.
Closer Still outran Dream It Is by 1 3/4 lengths for second. Magic Spell finished another half-length back in fourth, as Wild Lute trailed after a tardy start.
Eurico Da Silva rode Sly Beauty, a daughter of Into Mischief, who was supplemented for $2,000 by owner and breeder Debby Oxley.
“She was feeling good,” Da Silva said. “I gave her a big warmup. When I swung her outside, she just took it from there. The last quarter was tough. She ran a big race. I think she’s very talented. I really like the way she ran.”
Sly Beauty ($24.50) earned $60,000 in her first stakes victory and was given an 81 Beyer Speed Figure.
