Slow start can't stop She's the Berries in La Prevoyante

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – She’s the Berries ($8.80) overcame a tardy start to land her first stakes in Saturday’s $100,400 La Prevoyante at Woodbine.
After breaking two lengths behind the others, She’s the Berries raced about five lengths off an honest pace in the1 1/16-mile route. She commenced a three-wide rally on the far turn, and then hit the front early in the stretch before drawing clear for a 2 1/4-length tally in a time of 1:44.08.
Bear Paw closed for second, and Zestina edged out another 3-1 shot, slight favorite Line of Vision, for third in the nine-horse field of Ontario-sired 3-year-old fillies.
Woodbine’s leading rider, Eurico Da Silva, rode She’s the Berries for trainer Mark Casse.
“She was a little rank inside the gate, and didn’t break that fast,” Da Silva said. “But I was glad. We had a pace to run at. I was able to save some ground on the first turn. On the second turn, it was over. I had so much horse turning for home.”
She’s the Berries collected $60,000 for owner Brereton Jones, who bred the daughter of Badge of Silver in Ontario.
