Slews Final Answer rallies in Minaret

Rallying down the middle of the track, Slews Final Answer blew past pacesetter Beautiful Honor inside the final furlong and went on to post a 3 1/2-length victory Saturday in the $60,000 at Tampa Bay Downs.

Under a well-judged ride by Jose Ferrer, Slews Final Answer ($6.80) was allowed to settle into stride early, then advanced steadily while out in the middle of the strip to go after Beautiful Honor, who had set blistering early fractions of 21.79 and 45.03 seconds. Beautiful Honor still held a clear lead a furlong out but could do little when the winner ranged up. Slews Final Answer blew past and was going away through the late stages.

Slews Final Answer, a 6-year-old mare trained by Bill Mott, is now 8 for 21 with earnings of $340,567. She covered six furlongs on a fast track in 1:10.54.

Diabloangeleyes rallied late to be second at 99-1, completing a $286.40 exacta.
