Monmouth Park leading trainer Kelly Breen will attempt to win the track’s $100,000 Sorority Stakes for the third time in his career Monday when he saddles Sky Proposal.

But this running of Monmouth’s fixture for 2-year-old fillies has a different look than when Breen won the race in 2005 with Keeneland Kat and 2009 with Truth and Justice.

“We’ve done well in the Sorority in the past, back when it was six furlongs on the dirt,” he said.

The race Monday is at a mile on turf, conditions instituted in 2018. A field of 12 has signed on, plus a main-track-only entrant in My Beautiful Belle.

Sky Proposal is making her turf debut following a maiden special weight win over 5 1/2 furlongs on Aug. 15 at Monmouth. She’s by Liam’s Map, a young stallion who is getting 13 percent winners on the grass.

“Sky Proposal had a half-brother that ran really well on the Polytrack, and we’re hoping that converts over to turf,” Breen said. “And, she’s got a little bit of a turf foot. We’re hoping everything goes together.”

Sky Proposal’s half-brother Puntrooskie was a Grade 3 winner on synthetic, where he earned the bulk of his career bankroll of more than $400,000.

Sky Proposal, who races for Screen Door Stables, will break from post 6 under Ferrin Peterson.

Trainer Ben Perkins Jr., who won three straight running of the Sorority from 2000-02, will counter with Miss Wild. She was a 15-length debut winner over $40,000 maiden-claiming rivals in her only start, Aug. 9 at Monmouth.

Those invading for Sunday’s race include Mischievous Dream, a debut winner over males in a maiden special weight for New York-breds on turf July 19 at Saratoga. She exits a fourth-place finish in that track’s $85,000 Bolton Landing. Joe Bravo has the mount for trainer Christophe Clement.

Invincible Gal also last raced at Saratoga, winning a maiden special weight at 5 1/2 furlongs on turf Aug. 7 in her only start. The Beyer Speed Figure of 71 that she earned is the best career number in the Sorority. Jorge Vargas Jr. has the mount for trainer Graham Motion.

Flying Aletha has been working at Saratoga since a runner-up finish in the $76,000 Colleen on Aug. 2 at Monmouth. The winner of the race, Wink, has since run second in a Group 3 in France. Antonio Gallardo has the mount on Flying Aletha for trainer Wesley Ward.

Cilla, a maiden special weight winner at Delaware Park, is a half-sister to Jack the Umpire, a multiple stakes winner around two turns.
