Sky Mesa recovering after surgery

Glenye Cain Oakford|Feb 16, 2009

Sky Mesa, 2008's leading second-crop sire, underwent colic surgery on Sunday morning, Three Chimneys Farm in Midway, Ky., announced Monday.

A 9-year-old Pulpit stallion, Sky Mesa was "recovering comfortably" at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington on Monday and was expected back at the farm on Wednesday or Thursday, the Three Chimneys release said.

Dr. Scott Hopper performed the surgery, which involved a six-inch incision but no resection (excision of tissue).

"If all continues to go well, our vet, Dr. Jim Morehead, has advised that he could start covering mares on March 15," said Three Chimneys president Case Clay.
