Sky Mesa filly leads Florida sale

A weanling filly by Sky Mesa was purchased for $167,000 late Tuesday afternoon at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company fall mixed sale in Florida, the sales-topper at that point through almost two days of the five-day sale.

The filly, out of the Meadowlake mare Sugar Run, was purchased by Living Large Stable from the Beth Bayer, agent, consignment.

On Monday, the first day of the sale, 216 horses sold for gross proceeds of $4,870,000, up 2.2 percent from last year's first-day gross, when 191 horses sold for $4,764,300, according to sales records. The average price, however, fell 9.8 percent, from $24,944 to $22,546.

The sale was to continue Wednesday with the third of three consignor-preferred sessions, followed by two open days of selling.
