Skip Away filly brings top price

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - A $37,000 filly by Skip Away headed the preferred session of the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society's annual yearling sale at the Woodbine Sales Pavilion on Saturday.

Sue Leslie purchased the sale topper, who is the second foal from the $325,422 earner Cozy Up Doc. Box Arrow Farm, as agent, was the consignor.

The second-highest price was a $31,000 filly by Monashee Mountain, who was bought by Beclawat Stable from Woodlands, as agent.

A total of 151 yearlings brought $1,247,000, for an average of $8,258. Last year, 138 head grossed $1,215,800, while averaging $8,810. Thirty-seven were listed as not sold, compared with 72 in 2006.

The average for the preferred session was down 6.3 percent from last year, but the gross increased by 2.6 percent.
