Skip and Go best in Texas

Mary Rampellini|Jan 11, 2006

Skip and Go was named the 2005 Texas-bred horse of the year and champion older horse by the Texas Thoroughbred Association on Wednesday. Skip and Go won back-to-back stakes last winter at Sunland Park in New Mexico and earned more than $150,000 in 2005.

Skip and Go was bred by Stonerside Stable and races for Wafer Thoroughbred Ranch Inc. Last year, he won the Winsham Lad Handicap and Curribot Handicap and placed in five other stakes.

Other divisional winners were Forrest G., champion 2-year-old; Final Trick, 2-year-old filly; Dixie Meister, 3-year-old; Timber Jones, 3-year-old filly; and Slewpy's Storm, older filly or mare. The champion broodmare was Goleada, a Group 1 winner in Argentina who produced Skip and Go.
