Six-furlong time for Breeders' Cup Classic adjusted

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The official six-furlong fractional time for Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Classic has been amended from 1.09.62 to 1:09.27 but no other times for the race will be affected, including the final time of 2:00.05, Equibase announced on Tuesday.

Equibase said that it amended the fractional time after conducting a “comprehensive video review to verify the accuracy” of the six-furlong time.

While the race was being run, the six-furlong time was displayed on the tote board and on monitors as 1.07.48. Minutes later, Equibase officials amended the time to 1:09.62 after concluding that an outrider traveling the opposite way around the track to attend to an injured horse had tripped the electronic timing eye. The 1:09.62 was generated by hand-timing the race, Equibase said at the time.

The Classic was won by Flightline, who ran his career record to 6 for 6 with an 8 1/4-length romp. Flightline closely tracked the pace set by Life Is Good for most of the race before passing that rival at the top of the stretch and cantering to the wire without being threatened.

The fractions for the 1 1/4-mile Classic are now one-quarter in 22.55, one-half in 45.47, three-quarters in 1:09.27, and the mile in 1:34.58.
