Six breeze fastest furlong at Barretts May breeze show

A sextet of juveniles tied for the fastest time over one furlong on Tuesday during the Barretts May 2-year-olds in training and horses of racing age sale under-tack show, stopping the clock in :10 seconds flat.

It was a doubly historic occasion, as the first Barretts juvenile breeze show hosted at Del Mar, the sale company’s new permanent location after previously being based at Fairplex Park in Pomona, Calif. The breeze show was also one of the first major acts of business since Del Mar installed a natural dirt surface on its main track, replacing the synthetic Polytrack surface installed in 2007.

Following are the six horses to breeze in the fastest time during Thursday’s under-tack show.

Hip No. 30, a filly from the first crop of sire Trappe Shot, out of the Proud Citizen mare Dblsecretprobation, whose two foals to race are winners. She is from the family of Grade 1-placed Social Probation and Grade 2-placed stakes winners Britt’s Jules and Rush Now. Excel Bloodstock consigns the filly as agent.

Hip No. 78, an Exchange Rate colt out of the unraced Maria’s Mon mare Lipstick Sunset, who is the dam of two winners. Lipstick Sunset is a half sister to Grade 2 winner Santa Catarina, and the extended family includes European champion Culture Vulture. He is consigned by McCarthy Bloodstock, agent.

Hip No. 127, a Broken Vow filly out of the Songandaprayer mare Shoes to Match, who is the dam of one winner from one runner. The page includes Grade 2 winner Wortheroatsingold and Grade 3 winner Daylight Savings. McCarthy Bloodstock is the consignor, as agent.

Hip No. 146, a Hat Trick filly out of the stakes-placed Vicar mare Vicar’s Vixen. She is from the family of Grade 1 winner Wise Times and Grade/Group 3 winners Timely Broad and Mr. Lider. Wavertree Stables consigns as agent.

Hip No. 151, a Desert Party filly out of the Grade 3-placed stakes-winning Dixieland Band mare Jena Jena, who is the dam of five winners. The Oklahoma-bred is from the family of Grade 2 winner With a Wink and Grade 3 winner Raja’s Shark, and she is consigned by SBM Training and Sales, agent.

Hip No. 155, a Songandaprayer colt out of the unplaced Polish Numbers mare To the Good Times, who is the dam of stakes-placed Ogermeister. The page also includes Grade 2 winners Bad ‘n Big and It’s No Joke. He is consigned by Sequel Bloodstock, agent.

One horse led the way among those who breezed a quarter mile during the under-tack show, working in :21 1/5 seconds. Hip No. 65, Chicken Hawk, is a J P’s Gusto colt out of the winning Lord Carson mare Iny Belle, whose three winners from as many runners includes the multiple stakes-placed Smoky Belle. The Florida-bred’s page also includes Grade 3 winner Big Chill and Grade 3-placed stakes winner Princess Belle. Chicken Hawk is consigned by Wavertree Stables, agent.

The Barretts May sale will be held Thursday, May 28 at Del Mar, beginning at 1 p.m. Pacific.
