Sistercharlie likely to miss Flower Bowl, train up to BC

ELMONT, N.Y. – Sistercharlie, the leader of the female turf division, most likely will miss the Grade 1 Flower Bowl at Belmont Park on Oct. 7 and be trained up to the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Churchill Downs on Nov. 3, trainer Chad Brown said Saturday.
Sistercharlie, a three-time Grade 1 winner this year, missed some training due to a foot bruise, Brown said. She has not worked since winning the Grade 1 Beverly D. at Arlington Park on Aug. 11, though she is scheduled to breeze Sunday morning at Belmont.
“I’m not going to completely rule [the Flower Bowl] out, but she did miss a scheduled breeze last week with a foot bruise which has since resolved 100 percent, but because of that missed training, I’m now strongly considering just training her up to the Breeders’ Cup,” Brown said.
Sistercharlie, a 4-year-old Irish-bred daughter of Myboycharlie owned by Peter Brant, is 3 for 4 this year, with Grade 1 victories in the Jenny Wiley at Keeneland, the Diana at Saratoga and the Beverly D. Her lone loss came to stablemate Fourstar Crook, by a head, in the Grade 2 New York Stakes at Belmont in June.
Fourstar Crook, second in the Beverly D., is expected to run in the Flower Bowl.
Brown also said that Feedback, an eight-length debut winner at Saratoga on Aug. 12, will miss the Grade 1 Frizette at Belmont on Oct. 7 after developing a temperature that has compromised her training schedule.
“The timing of it is unfortunate, but hopefully she’ll bounce back soon,” Brown said.
Brown has not officially withdrawn her from consideration for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies but said a race like the Grade 3, $150,000 Tempted, a one-turn mile at Aqueduct on Nov. 2, may be a preferred option.
Feedback, a 2-year-old daughter of Violence owned by Seth Klarman, covered 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:16.33 in her debut and earned an 85 Beyer Speed Figure.
Brown has confirmed plans for his bevy of 2-year-old maiden-race winners.
Aurelius Maximus, a 7 3/4-length winner of a one-mile maiden race at Belmont on Sept. 9, and Complexity, a winner of a six-furlong maiden race at Saratoga on Sept. 3, are both being pointed to the Grade 1 Champagne at Belmont on Oct. 6.
Looking at Bikinis, a 5 3/4-length debut winner at Belmont on Sept. 9, and Standard Deviation, a debut winner at Saratoga on Aug. 18, are both on target for the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland on Oct. 6.
On Saturday at Belmont, Standard Deviation and Complexity worked a sharp half-mile together in 47.87 seconds, getting a final quarter in 23.78. Standard Deviation was particularly strong on the gallop-out.
Looking at Bikinis and Aurelius Maximus went a half-mile in 48.75 seconds after going in 24.20 for the opening quarter.
