Sires Flatter, Irish War Cry, Army Mule well represented as Ocala breeze show concludes
The hard-knocking late sire Flatter, along with freshman sires Irish War Cry and Army Mule, were represented by the standouts as the marathon breeze show for the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co.'s June sale of 2-year-olds and horses of racing age concluded Saturday.
A filly by Flatter threw down the bullet work for a furlong, the traditional yardstick for unraced juveniles, early in the six-session breeze show, going in 9 4/5 seconds on the Ocala Training Center's all-weather Safetrack surface. That time was not matched until the final session, when a filly from the first crop of Irish War Cry worked in the same time. Behind them came a logjam of 46 2-year-olds tied for the second-fastest time at 10 seconds flat.
The bullet-working filly by Flatter, an A.P. Indy horse who died in May at Claiborne Farm, is consigned by bloodstock agent Julie Davies. She is out of the unraced Candy Ride mare Wicked Ride, dam of three winners from four starters; two of those winners are by stallions from the A.P. Indy sireline.
Wicked Ride is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner and stakes producer Wickedly Perfect, by Flatter's full brother Congrats. Wicked Ride is also a half-sister to stakes winner Wicked Mizz and to Grade 2-placed Ash Zee. Both have produced stakes performers, as has another sister, Wickedly Smart.
Multiple graded stakes-winning millionaire Irish War Cry, a Curlin horse who was second in the 2017 Belmont Stakes, stands at Northview Stallion Station in Maryland. His first-crop filly who tied for the bullet furlong is consigned by Thorostock LLC, as agent.
This filly is out of the winning Medallist mare D D Renegade, who is the dam of three winners from as many starters, including stakes-placed Jamaican Don. D D Renegade is a half-sister to stakes-placed Expected Pleasures, dam of stakes winner Expected Ruler. Lite Light, winner of the 1991 Kentucky Oaks and three other Grade 1 events, appears on the catalog page.
Among juveniles working a quarter-mile, still the minority but a group that has grown larger as the season progresses and horses gain maturity, a Florida-bred filly by Army Mule worked in 20 1/5 seconds. She held the solo bullet, with seven tied at 20 2/5 seconds behind her.
Grade 1 winner Army Mule stands at Hill 'n' Dale Farm in Kentucky. His bullet-working filly, consigned by Fast Horses, as agent, is out of the unraced Super Saver mare Super Holiday, a half-sister to stakes-placed Charming She Is. Graded stakes winners Double Honor, Prophet's Warning, and Mugaritz appear on the catalog page.
