SirePowered Results: Tapit

DRF Breeding Staff|Apr 13, 2015
Race Day 4-11-2015
Coady Photography Race Day, the even-money favorite under John Velazquez, scores by 3 3/4 lengths in the Oaklawn Handicap.

Tapit, who led North America’s general sire list in 2014, is again off to a solid start in 2015. The Gainesway stallion extended his lead atop the sire list over the weekend, as, according to Daily Racing Form’s SirePowered Results, he recorded eight winners, with three graded stakes winners, on April 10-11 alone. The run helped pushed his earnings for this year to $5,755,277, more than $1.7 million ahead of his closest pursuer.

The highest Beyer Speed Figure among that group was recorded by Race Day, with SirePowered Results showing a 110 for his score in the Grade 2 Oaklawn Handicap on Saturday at Oaklawn Park. It was the second graded stakes victory for the son of the More Than Ready mare Rebalite; he also captured the Grade 3 Razorback Handicap last month at the Arkansas track.

Champion Untapable represented Tapit with a victory in the Grade 1 Apple Blossom Handicap on Friday at Oaklawn Park. The filly, out of the multiple stakes-producing Prized mare Fun House, earned a 99 Beyer. A day later, Divining Rod captured the Grade 3 Lexington Stakes at Keeneland, earning a 98. The colt is out of multiple Grade 1 winner Precious Kitten, by Catienus.

Tapit began the weekend with two winners at Keeneland on Friday, as Dancing House won an optional-claiming event and Tapkee took a maiden special weight. The following day, Hottap and Good Pick Nick were maiden winners at Oaklawn and Aqueduct, respectively, while Perique won an optional claimer at Pimlico.

Grade 1 winner Tapit, who entered stud at Gainesway in 2005, set a single-season record for progeny earnings in 2014, led by Untapable, who won four Grade 1 events, including the Kentucky Oaks and Breeders’ Cup Distaff, to secure Eclipse Award honors as champion 3-year-old filly. The Pulpit horse was also represented by Tonalist, who won the Belmont Stakes and Jockey Club Gold Cup.
