Sir for Sure ($45.70) outruns Hall of Dreams in Plate Trial Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - The Mark Casse-trained longshots Sir for Sure and Hall of Dreams ran one-two in Sunday’s $150,400 Plate Trial Stakes at Woodbine, a key prep for the $1 million Queen’s Plate on Aug. 21.
Sir for Sure and Hall of Dreams rallied in unison on the outside in the 1 1/8-mile event for Canadian-bred 3-year-olds. Sir for Sure bumped with Hall of Dreams exiting the turn before going on to score comfortably by two lengths, in a time of 1:50.62.
Patrick Husbands on Hall of Dreams claimed foul on Declan Carroll aboard Sir for Sure, but there was no change in the order of finish after an inquiry regarding the incident.
“He’s a very easy ride,” Carroll said. “He traveled beautifully throughout the race. I saw the horse on my outside move a little early. I knew my horse had a good kick (from) when he won at Gulfstream. I just bided my time, and when I had to make room, I was able to push out. That’s how racing is. Sometimes, it gets a little rough, but I was happy to come away with the win.”
Saratoga shipper Causin’ Mayhem faded to third after setting a quick pace in his first synthetic start, finishing just in front of a troubled Duke of Love. Dancin in Da’nile, 9-5 favorite The Minkster, Lac Macaza, Guard of Honour and Bill Needle completed the order of finish.
Sir for Sure paid $45.70. The gelded son of Sligo Bay earned $90,000 in his first stakes score for Heste Sport Inc. Sligo Bay is the sire of 2014 Queen’s Plate winner Lexie Lou.
