Sir Anthony scores big upset in Bruce D. Memorial

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – Rendering the vast majority of pick-five tickets worthless, Sir Anthony pulled a 34-1 stunner Saturday when rallying in the fourth running of the $100,000 Bruce D. Memorial, the first of five straight stakes on Arlington Million Day at Arlington Park.
With Florent Geroux riding for trainer Tony Mitchell, Sir Anthony split rivals in midstretch when pulling away to prevail by two lengths over Nobrag Justfact for just his second career victory in 11 starts. The Richard Otto homebred returned $71.60 after finishing in 1:37.62 over Polytrack.
The Tabulator, the 11-10 favorite in a field of nine, faded to fifth after looming boldly with a quarter-mile to go.
It was the third straight year for an upset in the Bruce D., following Yo Carm (11-1 in 2016) and Harmac (27-1 in 2017).
All-sources handle for the pick five, which encompassed all five stakes run here Saturday (races 8-12), was $479,574.
