Sippin seeks seventh straight while trying two turns in Enchantress

The undefeated Sippin will attempt to win her seventh consecutive race on Sunday, when she stretches out around two turns for the first time in the $85,000 Enchantress at Sunland Park.
The Enchantress is a one-mile race restricted to 3-year-old fillies bred in New Mexico. A field of seven is set to start. The card also includes a first-level allowance at a mile that drew Dad, a son of the undefeated New Mexico-bred millionaire mare Peppers Pride.

KEY CONTENDERS
Sippin, by Swissle Stick
Last 3 Beyers: 82-76-79
◗ Sippin is the most accomplished member of the field. She has won four stakes – three against statebreds and the $50,000 Permian Basin against open company in October at Zia.
◗ Sippin’s class could carry the day as she has limited route influences in her immediate pedigree. Her sire, the Swiss Yodeler son Swissle Stick, registered his seven career wins in sprints.
Sippin’s dam, Samba Queen, was placed in a sprint in her best career race, but she is by champion Giant’s Causeway. Samba Queen also has produced a two-time route winner in Mancation, whose two-turn victories include the New Mexico Breeders’ Derby at Sunland.
◗ Sippin has raced once at Sunland, winning the $85,000 La Senora over six furlongs in her most recent start Dec. 27. In that race, she rallied from seventh to deliver as the 1-5 favorite by a half-length.
◗ Tracy Hebert, who has been aboard Sippin for her last three starts, has the mount from post 2.
◗ Todd Fincher trains Sippin for her breeder-owner, R.D. Hubbard.
Pink Cadillac, by Diabolical
Last 3 Beyers: 54-15-45
◗ Of the horses in the Enchantress who have previously faced Sippin, none has finished closer to the favorite than Pink Cadillac. The pair met last out in the La Senora, and Pink Cadillac finished fourth, beaten 5 3/4 lengths.
In another meeting, the $140,000 New Mexico Cup Lassie at six furlongs on Oct. 30 at Zia, Pink Cadillac was third, beaten seven lengths by Sippin.
◗ Ken Tohill has the mount for J. Kirk and Judy Robison and trainer Joel Marr.
