Singletary a proving ground for Tristan's Trilogy
ARCADIA, Calif. – When the Desert Code Stakes was moved from turf to the main track because of wet conditions last Saturday, Tristan’s Trilogy stayed in the barn.
“He’s definitely a turf horse,” trainer Peter Miller said.
Tristan’s Trilogy beat maidens on the 6 1/2-furlong hillside turf course at Santa Anita on April 2 and will have his stakes debut on grass in the $75,000 Singletary Stakes for 3-year-olds at a mile on Saturday.
Miller said that Tristan’s Trilogy must show in the Singletary that he is more than a sprinter.
“We’re cautiously optimistic that he’ll relax now and can carry [his speed] a little bit further,” he said. “We know he likes the hill. He’s starting to figure it out.”
The Singletary Stakes is the only turf race around two turns for 3-year-olds at the spring-summer meeting. The race drew a field of six, with no stakes winners.
Lucky Bryan was fourth in the Zuma Beach Stakes for 2-year-olds last October when trained by Alexis Barba. Owned by Pete and Kosta Hronis, Lucky Bryan has since been transferred to trainer John Sadler. The Singletary Stakes will be Lucky Bryan’s first start of 2016.
