Single on 8-1 shot key to huge pick six hit

DEL MAR, Calif. – The single winning ticket in Thursday’s pick six at Del Mar was purchased ontrack for $1,296 and singled Bench Light ($18) in the eighth race. The pick six paid $278,798, with consolation tickets worth $5,034.

Track officials said the winning ticket had a structure 4x6x3x3x1x3, which resulted in 15 winning consolation tickets. There were three other tickets that had five winners.

There were no winning favorites in the pick six. The winners of the pick six races were Bunuska ($12.20), Fable ($11.60), Storm Comin Thru ($22.40), Money Cannon ($33.60), Bench Light, and Oh Deann ($9.20).

After Bench Light won the eighth race, the fifth leg of the bet, the winning ticket had three first-time starters in the final race for 2-year-old maiden claimers – Oh Deann, Jan’s Spirit (10-1) and Powerful Girl (5-1).

The winner of the pick six declined a request to be interviewed, track officials said.
