Single 6 carryover into Churchill Thursday card

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The post-Derby portion of the Churchill spring meet begins with an eight-race Thursday card that follows four dark days. First post is 5 p.m. Eastern.
Entries for the Thursday card were not to be drawn until Tuesday, meaning past performances will not be available in Daily Racing Form print editions because Monday is the deadline for Thursday racing. The Churchill past performances still will be available online at DRF.com.
The Thursday carryover in the 20-cent Single 6, which spans races 3-8, stands at $137,594 after multiple tickets worth $271,869 were cashed Derby Day on handle of just more than $1 million.
There were no perfect tickets in the new two-day pick six composed entirely of Grade 1 races on Oaks and Derby Days, with $2 tickets having 5 of 6 winners being worth $67,936 on handle of $479,561.
Statue to honor Winn, Asher
Churchill officials announced between races on Derby Day that a statue will be constructed depicting a couple of Derby legends, Matt Winn and John Asher, in a conversational pose with one another. The statue will be placed in the shadow of the track’s iconic twin spires, with unveiling scheduled by opening day of the 2020 spring meet.
Winn is widely credited with building the Derby in the early 20th century into what it is today. Asher was the track’s beloved spokesman for some 20 years prior to his unexpected death last August at age 62.
◗ Stewart Elliott, best known for winning the 2004 Derby and Preakness with Smarty Jones, arrived Sunday in Louisville from the recently ended Oaklawn meet and intends to ride here through meet’s end, June 29, with Terry Miller as his agent.
◗ Cory Prewitt has been hired as the new agent for Corey Lanerie, the longtime leading rider at Churchill, effective post-Derby. Prewitt will also continue working for jockey Declan Cannon.
