Singing Bullet impresses in closing-day allowance score

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – One of the biggest Beyer Speed Figures during the final week at Churchill was earned by Singing Bullet, when his 3 1/4-length victory in a one-mile allowance Sunday translated to a 95. It was yet another big effort for a 3-year-old who showed steady improvement throughout the year.
“We’re excited for what he can do as a 4-year-old,” said Dale Romans, who trains the Hard Spun colt for Stronach Stables. “I guess we might have to look for a stakes for him at Gulfstream off that race.”
Turfway jockeys in transit
The jockey colony at Turfway Park won’t look quite the same shortly after the holiday meet ends Dec. 31. There’s an annual evacuation of sorts at the start of the three-month winter-spring at the northern Kentucky track as a handful of riders depart for Oaklawn Park, which starts its 2018 meet on Jan. 12.

Among the jockeys who plan to be on hand for the entire four-month duration, however, is Ty Kennedy, who will be represented by Jimmy McNerney, the dominant agent for years at Turfway, Ellis Park, and Indiana Grand. McNerney, who also is the Turfway race-caller, also will book mounts for Channing Hill before Hill leaves for Oaklawn.
Louisville couple take down Single 6
A Louisville couple who spent about $300 on various tickets in the Single 6 on Saturday at Churchill brought down the entire pool when wagering through the twinspires website.
Keith and Teresa McCarthy bought the only perfect ticket on the six-race sequence to win $160,904. With no big carryover to shoot for, bettors wagered just $33,072 into the Single 6 on Sunday, compared to $626,705 on closing day of the 2016 fall meet.
