Sinatra resigns as president of Equibase
Sal Sinatra has resigned from his role as president and chief operating officer of Equibase, the official Thoroughbred database announced on Friday.
“I am stepping aside at this point so that I may dedicate my time to personal issues that require my full attention,” Sinatra said in a release. “I am grateful to the members of the Equibase management committee for their support of me, and to my co-workers at Equibase Company and The Jockey Club for their help and kind assistance since I joined Equibase one year ago.”
Sinatra was named to his role at Equibase, a partnership between subsidiaries of The Jockey Club and the Thoroughbred Racing Associations of North America, in June 2021. Among a number of other roles in the industry, he spent 15 years as vice president of racing and racing secretary at Parx before becoming president and general manager of the Maryland Jockey Club in 2014.
In the release announcing the resignation, Ian Highet, chairman of Equibase, praised Sinatra's role in facilitating development of the Equibase E-GPS, a hybrid of light beam timing and GPS tracking.
James L. Gagliano, president and chief operating officer of The Jockey Club, will assume an interim role of president of Equibase. The company will commence a search for a new president, which will include internal and external candidates.
