Simply Wicked has first stakes victory in Lafayette

Simply Wicked became a stakes winner Saturday night when he rallied from off the pace for a 1 1/2-length win over Vodka Gimlet in the $60,000 Lafayette at Evangeline Downs.
Order Up finished two lengths back in third, winning a photo for the spot over fourth-place finisher and favorite Don’t Wait Up.
The Lafayette was for 3-year-olds.
Simply Wicked ($12) settled behind the leaders, as Yukio ran the opening quarter in 21.85 seconds and Big Chopper took over through a half-mile in 45.30. The eventual winner rallied through the stretch, covering six furlongs on a fast track in 1:11.67.
Ry Eikleberry was aboard for trainer Robertino Diodoro.
Simply Wicked is a son of Wicked Strong who races for Richard L. Davis. He has now won 4 of 11 starts for earnings of $139,010.
