Jockey Ruben Silvera will likely be out five weeks after breaking his collarbone in a spill Monday at Parx, according to his agent, Richard Englander. Silvera and apprentice jockey Eliseo Ruiz, also involved in the spill, were named on horses Thursday at Aqueduct but did not ride. Ruiz, according to Englander, had a hoof imprint on his left forearm but X-rays taken on the arm were negative. Ruiz is expected to miss one week. A third rider involved in the spill, Julio Correa, was fine and rode Tuesday and Wednesday at Parx. Silvera was unseated from his mount Enforcer when the horse stumbled near the quarter pole. According to Englander, Enforcer had some bumps and bruises but ran back to his barn at Parx. Silvera ranks sixth in the jockey standings at Aqueduct with 20 wins from 137 mounts. Six of those wins had come in March. Silvera ranked fifth in the rider standings at Parx. When he gets back to riding, presumably late April, Silvera plans to continue riding at Aqueduct and Parx. Ruiz ranks second in the standings at Parx with 29 wins from 157 mounts. He won six races from 82 mounts at Aqueduct. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
