Silks Run attracts top turf sprinters

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Saturday’s $75,000 Silks Run Stakes will feature a rematch between two of the top turf sprinters in the area, Power Alert and Amelia’s Wild Ride. The pair finished first and second, a neck apart, in the Gulfstream Park Turf Sprint on Feb. 6.
Most of the usual suspects in local turf-sprint stakes also will be in the lineup, including Bold Thunder, Do the Roar, Grand Bili, and Simon Bar Sinister. Hothersal, who has had the bulk of his success on grass around two turns, will shorten up for the race and join a lineup that also includes Successful Native and the supplementary entries Star Contender and Dr. J Dub.
The $75,000 Captiva Island, the female counterpart to the Silks Run, will have Katie’s Kiss and Jewel of a Cat topping a lineup that includes Forest Funds, Granny’s Drink, Miss Matzoball, Rap, and Susie’s a Cowgirl. Katie’s Kiss and Jewel of a Cat finished second and third behind the odds-on Lady Shipman in the Ladies Turf Sprint here Feb. 6.
Lady’s Shipman is in Dubai preparing to run against males in the $1 million Al Quoz Sprint on the Dubai World Cup card.
