Michael Burns Silent Treat bested a field of 12 to earn her first stakes win Saturday in the Ballade Stakes at Woodbine.
ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Silent Treat ($27.40) beat a deep field of Ontario-sired fillies and mares while notching her first stakes Saturday at Woodbine in the $126,600 Ballade Stakes.
With Michelle Rainford riding, Silent Treat set fractions of 22.44 seconds and 45.31 in the six-furlong sprint. She opened up a clear lead on the turn en route to a two-length tally in 1:09.79. Rootham Triple E’s outran another longshot, I’m a Kittyhawk, for second in the 12-horse field.
Silent Treat banked $75,000 for owner Stablemates and trainer Scott Fairlie.
“When we drew the 1 hole, it was obviously a concern, but I had a lot of faith in her,” Rainford said. “She can handle pressure well and rate, or go to the lead. She did exactly that today.”
