Silent Star gets first stakes win in Victoriana

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Under a patient ride from Justin Stein, Silent Star notched her first stakes victory on Wednesday night at Woodbine in the $126,200 Victoriana.
Silent Star came wide from mid-pack in the 1 1/16-mile turf route, as last year’s Victoriana winner, Hobnobsnob, set a fast pace. Silent Star outfinished the favored Strut the Course in the final furlong to prevail by a neck in 1:42.90 over a course labeled good. She paid $11.80.
Primordia, a 55-1 outsider, saved ground and ended up a half-length back in third in a field reduced to 11 after the scratches of Silent Treat and Cantbeatthestory.
“The horses to the inside went and commanded the pace, which gave me an opportunity to tuck in behind them,” Stein said. “When she’s in behind horses, she really relaxes and just wants to gallop along until she’s asked to run.”
Silent Star collected $75,000 for CEC Stables and trainer David Bell.
